Dissertation Thoughts! In a Slideshow!

I find that when I try to explain to my friends and committee members what I’m thinking about for my dissertation, I wish I could draw pictures of what I’m thinking about. To that end, I whipped up a quick and dirty slideshow.

Please comment! I’m writing the prospectus this summer and I’d love help on shaping my direction!

This is a great way to present your thoughts, loved the slideshow! It’s a little outside my field so I don’t know if I can offer any comments on your theory or anything, so I’m sorry for that. Too bad you can’t just show the slideshow as your prospectus!

  2. I’m a fan! I’ll be interested to see what you come up with!

I am also a fan. I think this idea is quite intriguing, and you might think about (not to split your focus, but…) the roles that “plagiarism” plays.

As an antecedent question: what motivates alphabetic and musical composition? Are there differences? Do those motives correlate with particular effects they aim for, or with particular sources they utilize?

Another question would be genre? Does genre of musical or literary composition impact either the effect or the sources utilized? Or are those recursive effects: do the effects/sources impact the genre in any way? (Maybe these could be collected as control variables?)

Hm… I should do this too.

I mean, I should do a slideshow – not the same thesis. If you want to do a section on composition for science, I’ll be happy to talk with you.
